Building on the success of its \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/droitetcroissance.fr\/2022\/05\/seminar-on-the-methods-of-law-economics\/\">Methods of Law &amp; Economics<\/a>\u2019 seminar held in 2022, the aim of this year\u2019s seminar is to introduce PhD students and early-career researchers from Europe to the methods of Law &amp; Finance and the latest research in the Law &amp; Finance of corporate governance.<\/p>\n<p>Through presentations on the following topics, participants will gain a comprehensive overview of academic developments in the fields of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Corporate governance and market failures;<\/li>\n<li>Empirical corporate governance: theory and facts about the debate on shareholder democracy and board insulation;<\/li>\n<li>Structure and performance of executive compensation;<\/li>\n<li>Private law, antitakeover provisions and firm value;<\/li>\n<li>State antitakeover laws and firm value;<\/li>\n<li>Investor activism and investor opportunism;<\/li>\n<li>Investors\u2019 time horizon and corporate governance;<\/li>\n<li>Market shocks, corporate governance and firm value.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to <strong>presenting<\/strong> relevant empirical contributions, the seminar will review the major empirical approaches used in these areas, such as cross-sectional analysis, time-series analysis, levels v. changes analysis, instrumental variable approach in finance, high-dimensional fixed effect models, matching models, regression discontinuity, placebo, and more. This will enable PhD students and early-career researchers to develop the necessary skills to engage with and cast a critical eye on theoretical and empirical research in the field of Law &amp; <strong>Finance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">LECTURERS<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The seminar was taught by <strong>Professors <a href=\"https:\/\/droitetcroissance.fr\/?team=simone-sepe\">Simone M. Sepe<\/a><\/strong>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/droitetcroissance.fr\/?team=alan-schwartz\"><strong>Alan Schwartz<\/strong><\/a>, two internationally renowned experts in Law &amp; Finance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/droitetcroissance.fr\/?team=simone-sepe\">Simone M. Sepe<\/a><\/strong> is the Chester H. Smith Professor of Law and Finance at the James E. Rogers College of Law, University of Arizona. His areas of expertise include business organizations, corporate finance, contract theory, law and<br \/>\neconomics, law and philosophy, and empirical methods. He holds doctoral degrees in both law and economics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/droitetcroissance.fr\/?team=alan-schwartz\">Alan Schwartz<\/a><\/strong> is a Sterling Professor at Yale University. Professor Schwartz is one of the leading experts on law &amp; economics worldwide. His academic specialties include corporate finance and corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcy, contracts, and commercial transactions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">PRACTICAL DETAILS<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Participation in the \u2018Methods of Law &amp; Finance\u2019 seminar is <strong>free of charge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, the Rules for Growth Institute (<strong>Droit &amp; Croissance<\/strong>) <strong>can reimburse up to 200 euros<\/strong> of the travel expenses for PhD students and early-career researchers based outside of France.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar will be held on the premises of Orrick Rambaud Martel (61 Rue desBelles Feuilles, 75016 Paris).
